The Government of Quebec has given the task of administering its occupational health and safety plan to the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (the CSST). To this end, the CSST’s responsibilities include overseeing the application of two laws:

  1. An Act respecting occupational health and safety, the goal of which is to eliminate dangers to the health, safety and physical well-being of workers at their source;
  2. An Act respecting industrial accidents and occupational diseases, the goal of which is to provide compensation for employment injuries and the consequences they entail for workers as well as collecting the sums required to administer the Act from employers.

    The main mandates of the CSST are to support workers and employees in procedures intended to eliminate workplace dangers at their source, inspect workplaces, promote occupational health and safety, and compensate and rehabilitate workers who have suffered a work-related injury.
